Job Description

 

The Energy Foundation is a public charity based in San Francisco, California, U.S.A. The Energy Foundation has a Beijing representative office that supports the China Sustainable Energy Program (www.efchina.org), whose mission is to encourage China’s sustainable development through energy efficiency and renewable energy policy development.

 

The Energy Foundation’s China Sustainable Energy Program is launching a new “China Sustainable Cities Program” (CSCP) based in its offices in Beijing. We are interested in assisting China’s cities to develop sustainable urban designs and sustainable transportation systems, focusing on the energy saving elements in each of these areas. CSCP will focus on pilot project implementation in Chinese cities. Our primary role is as a grant-maker working with Chinese institutions, government decision-makers, and international experts to assist in China’s transition to a sustainable energy future.

 

As a fast growing program, we are seeking Urban Planning/ Urban Transportation Programs Interns all year around. The position will consist of 20-40 hour work week on a flexible schedule. Other responsibilities will include various planning related tasks including:

 

l        Working the Senior Engineers and engineers with the city pilot programs

l        Assisting with the program update currently in process

l        Working with international expert and help organize technical meetings

l        Responding to program inquiries and communicate with related governmental and research agencies

l        Other responsibilities per the Technical Director/ Senior Program Director’s demands

 

Required Experience

 

Qualified applicants must possess a bachelor’s or master’s degree (or in pursuit of) in urban planning, transportation planning, architecture or closely-related field and must be able to travel within China to accomplish the tasks above.

 

Required Skills

 

l        Knowledge of urban planning / transportation principles and implementation process in China.

l        Good knowledge of software programs, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and internet planning research tool.

l        The ability to communicate both orally and in writing.  AutoCAD, GIS, TransCAD and Vicim experience a plus, but not required.

 

 

Position Level: Internship

 

Work length: 3 months
