  BACKGROUND

Microgrid technology adoption continues to grow, and airports could see benefits from its implementation. The products developed under ACRP Project 10-26 and published as ACRP Research Report 228: Airport Microgrid Implementation Toolkit help airports of all sizes assess this technology and address site-specific criteria. The online tool developed under this project is a key product, and its migration to a TRB-hosted ACRP WebResource is necessary to ensure it remains available to the U.S. airport industry.

  OBJECTIVE

The objective of this research is to migrate the online toolkit included in ACRP Research Report 228: Airport Microgrid Implementation Toolkit into an ACRP WebResource. As part of the migration, ensure that all features and functions are maintained, including inputs from and queries to third-party websites and databases, any default levels or sample data is still relevant, and the user guide is updated. The guide and associated materials from ACRP Research Report 228 should be referenced and linked from the WebResource as well. The final WebResource should meet all current data security standards or best practices.

  RESEARCH PLAN

The ACRP is seeking the insights of proposers on how best to achieve the research objective. Proposers are asked to provide a detailed research plan for accomplishing the project objective. Proposers are expected to describe research plans that can realistically be accomplished within the constraints of available funds and contract time. Proposals must present the proposers' current thinking in sufficient detail to demonstrate their understanding of the issues and the soundness of their approach to meeting the research objective. The work proposed must be divided into tasks and proposers must describe the work proposed in each task in detail.

The research plan should include deliverables, for ACRP and panel review and approval, that include at a minimum (1) a review of the current online tool; (2) a migration and validation plan and updated schedule; and (3) an overview and summary of the original toolkit user data and website analytics. The research plan should also include checkpoints with the ACRP panel, including at a minimum (1) a kick-off web-meeting to be held within 1 month of the Notice to Proceed and (2) one interim deliverable review web-meeting, as well as web-meetings tied to the panel review and ACRP approval of other interim deliverables deemed appropriate.

Based on your expertise and experience, submit a budget estimate that would fund the proposed plan.

The final deliverables will include: (1) the ACRP WebResource that hosts the migrated online toolkit; (2) the updated user guide; (3) a Summary of Key Findings (see Special Note G); (4) a Further Recommended Research Memo (see Special Note H); and (5) a technical memo titled, “Implementation of Research Findings and Products” (see Special Note I).

Note: Following receipt of the draft final deliverables, there should be 3 months for ACRP review and comments and for contractor preparation of the final deliverables. For budgeting purposes, proposers should assume that ACRP will provide access to web-enabled teleconference services.
