Abstract: This paper presents a study on the ecological restoration and protection of Tianfu urban wetland park in Kunshan, Jingsu province. According to the survey on the characteristics such as age, education level, visiting purpose and duration, etc., this paper points out that the majority of the wetland park visitors are leisure vacationers. By using the environmental capacity method, the paper predicts the number of visitors and the parking demand for different transportation facilities. The comprehensive transportation planning scheme that is guided by visitors' need and the principle of protecting and adapting the natural and ecological environment is proposed for various zones with different characteristics inside the wetland park. The study develops a full excess-controlled transportation system for the whole park and provides connection to the four separated zones by overpass and tunnels. Inside each zone, there is an independent transportation sub-system. The highly efficient transfers are facilitated by one-main and multiple transportation terminals. Finally, the paper provides planning strategies in several aspects: roadway network, public transit, water transportation, pedestrian and bicycle transportation.
