European Experiences in Green Transportation Development

Abstract：This paper starts with a discussion on factors concerning green transportation, and on the objectives of sustainable transportation policies, then follows an analysis of a range of policy options to realize these objectives, including application of new technologies and intervention in transportation policies. Based on experiences of European countries, the paper summarizes the performance and effectiveness of various transportation policy options, such as land use, infrastructure facilities, traffic management, serivce provision, information and pricing, and so on. The paper concludes with suggestions to break through institutional, acceptability, and financial obstacles in implementing sustainable strategies.
