Abstract: There are some problems in the research of road traffic carbon emission, such as immature accounting technology and method and unclear localization path of emission factors, which affect the accounting accuracy of on-road mobile source carbon emissions. Based on existing research, this paper discusses the fundamental concepts, accounting boundaries, and accounting subjects of the on- road mobile source carbon emissions, and introduces three accounting methods: factor decomposition, emission coefficient, and life cycle assessment, along with their respective accounting principles and calculation models. To address the limited studies of emission factors calibration, the paper focuses on Shenzhen as a case study to illustrate the techniques for calibrating and verifying localized emission factors. Operational data are collected from local vehicles in Shenzhen and matched with typical operating conditions in the European HBEFA database. Additionally, the calibration precision of emission factors is verified using the OPCAS onboard mobile platform. As a result, a localized database with 4,500 emission factors is developed for different vehicle types, road conditions, and emission standards specific to Shenzhen.
