Abstract: In the context of urban renewal, the time dimension has gradually become an important dimension in understanding residents' daily activity schedules and travel decisions; however, its institutional and contextual aspects are often overlooked. From a temporal perspective, this paper clusters the activity pattern sequences of 1,163 commuters in Kunming's central urban area into three categories and uses the entropy method to measure the degree of time fragmentation for each activity pattern. Subsequently, a multiple linear regression model is constructed to identify the factors influencing commuters' activity patterns. The paper finds that there are significant differences in the degree of time fragmentation across different commuter activity patterns. The stricter the work schedule, the lower the degree of time fragmentation in commuters' activity patterns, and the higher the degree of "synchronization" in their travel patterns. Meanwhile, strict work schedules indirectly lead to greater reliance on private cars among commuters. Commuting distance emerges as the dominant factor influencing the fragmentation of time use in commuters' activity patterns—households tend to assign more family care responsibilities to members with shorter commuting distances. This finding differs from traditional conclusions regarding gender- based division of labor within households. Therefore, it is necessary to adopt comprehensive measures—such as implementing flexible work arrangements and coordinating the operating hours of public service facilities—to enhance the flexibility of residents' daily activity patterns and increase the dispersion of travel times. At the same time, urban transportation planning strategies should be formulated to address disparities in time use based on travel behavior guidance.
