Abstract: For a long time, academic research on Liang Sicheng has primarily focused on his practices and achievements in the field of architectural heritage preservation, while relatively neglecting his significant explorations in urban transportation. To clarify the complete context and academic value of Liang Sicheng's urban transportation planning philosophies, this paper systematically examines his ideas based on official archives and historical documents. It analyzes their core content, explores their background and intellectual origins, and evaluates their practical application and impact. The paper finds that Liang Sicheng's urban transportation planning philosophy emphasized addressing urban development issues from a holistic perspective. He advocated for scientific and rational planning to avoid repeating the mistakes made by Western cities in urban transportation, thereby establishing a transportation planning framework that synergizes with historical and cultural preservation and urban spatial form. These ideas laid an important theoretical foundation for modern urban transportation planning in China. Although some concepts could not be fully implemented due to technical and economic constraints in practice, their forward-looking principles provide valuable insights for future transportation planning.
